robert_munroeWe are incredibly fortunate to have Robert Munroe as an integral part of Upgrade Required. Bob’s considerable knowledge, expertise and industry connections will be invaluable to making Upgrade Required a lasting, thought-provoking thing of beauty.   Bob is currently pushing the bounds of Visual Effects and second unit on SyFy’s groundbreaking new science fiction series The Expanse.  Bob has been the Visual Effects Supervisor on projects such as Cube, Caveman’s Valentine, Finding Forrester, Splice (along with 2nd unit directing), The Tudors (2nd unit directing and winning two Gemini Awards for Best Visual Effects), Dolphin Tale, All Is Lost and The Borgias (nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effects). He was Second Unit Director on Splice, The Tudors and Nothing, Co-producer of The Tudors and Frost, and Executive Producer of The Portal and Academy Award winning director Chris Landreth’s short film The Spine. In the late 1990’s, Bob developed a process that enables animators to match lighting from real world film sets to synthetic lights in a computer generated environment. The process was awarded both U.S. and Canadian patents. In addition to effects supervision, directing and producing, Bob is a long-standing member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Film Centre and an Adjunct Professor at Sheridan College. He is a member of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (ACCT), The Director’s Guild of Canada (DGC) and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS). Bob is a Professor in Digital Film at the DeTao Masters Academy in Shanghai, China. In 2013 he was appointed to the board of the Computer Animation Studios of Ontario as government liason. Bob is also a board member of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society
